Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

The Most Interesting Portraits

Last Thursday Giles Clement, a photographer specializing in a tintype photography, set up shop at Art in the Age for a day to take photos of Philadelphians. For those of you who don’t know, tintype photography is “a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion.” The effect is basically this:

Pretty awesome right?!

Watching the whole process was so interesting. I basically geeked out when I saw his 165-year-old camera. Giles has been a photojournalist for the past 15 years, but started out on this tintype journey over a year ago. Now he travels around the country taking portraits of anyone and everyone (even dogs!).

Maybe he’s coming to place near you next! Make sure to check out his schedule and book fast – he sells out quick!
