My goal since moving to Denver is to do one outdoor activity a week. Since I work and take classes during the week, this is mostly relegated to weekend adventures. This past Sunday my brother, sister-in-law, and I went hiking at Saint Mary’s Glacier in Idaho Springs, CO.
It’s rated as an easy hike which is perfect for me as I adjust to the higher elevation in Colorado and get back into shape. This type of activity is much preferred to sweating it out in the gym.
Things to know about this hike:
- Distance: 1.4 miles
- Difficulty: 2/5 It’s a moderate rocky incline. If you are hiking while snow is on the ground, bring clip-on ice grippers as the rocky path gets slippery.
- Dogs: on-leash
- Fee: $5 parking lot fee
- Scenery: 5/5
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Drive from Denver: 1 hour
- There are portapotties at the parking lot.
- The trail starts about 900 feet up the road on the left from the parking lot.
