Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

Fellow Philadelphian: Sarah Lewis of Adorn Boutique

Fellow Philadelphian is a feature that showcases the best talent and creative individuals of Philadelphia. It’s a company of people that inspire me as an artist, photographer, writer, and human being. Click here to see past Fellow Philadelphians.

Sarah Lewis is a jewelry designer and boutique owner in Philadelphia that has clearly made her mark on Philadelphia’s fashionable. Originally from up-state New York, Sarah moved to Philadelphia for a job with Free People designing accessories a few years ago. She started in glasswork jewelry for about 10 years and then transitioned into working with metal and stone. Her love of turquoise sprung from her time living in Arizona, and after she transferred to Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, she started studying Metals & Jewelry and never looked back!

I love this unique antler fixture hanging right in the middle of the shop! Sarah even constructed it herself!

In 2010 Sarah launched her debut jewelry collection, Adorn by Sarah Lewis, with the Adorn Boutique in Fishtown following closely behind in May 2011. Philadelphia has welcomed Sarah with open arms. She says, It’s a place that supports arts and design, and a place that supports small businesses. I’ve received a lot of support from the community. When I left my job at Free People the thought of leaving Philly didn’t even cross my mind.”

Sarah also enjoys the community she’s found surrounding her art and her business. “What I love most abut having the boutique, is that it keeps me connected to my community.  I love participating in the Frankford Ave. First Firday’s, and knowing all my neighbors who come to shop.

On The Right: An upcoming vintage popup market coming to Adorn! Details at the bottom of the post.

Things that refresh Sarah as an artist is a collection of experiences including travel, live music, new materials and stones she’s working with, yoga and culture. The opportunities she’s had to travel have vastly impacted her creativity.  These days you can see some jewelry and handbags Sarah’s picked up from her travels to and from India. Yoga also provides a great release for Sarah. And as most people, it’s something she wishes she had more time for. “What I do is inspired by different cultures, what I see in the environment and inspired by the materials I use. When I travel, it is to source materials and to source inspiration.”

As a visual artist, Sarah is very inspired by the colors she works with. Her love affair with turquoise is cross-seasonal and is evident in her collections.  She’s also been into winter white, and for spring, little touches of bright colors. For metal she works with gold and silver primarily, and the stones is where she gets to introduce the color.

Sarah is a Fellow Philadelphian who is doing what she loves, and doing it well. As for the future, Sarah plans to continue to grow her business and run the Adorn Boutique in Fishtown.  Her ultimate goal is to Adorn as many women as she can with her jewelry!  You’ll find her regularly attending gem shows sourcing new materials, designing new styles, and dreaming of her next travels to India, Thailand, and even Morocco!

Keep your eyes peeled for an Adorn Jewelry giveaway next week!
