Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

What I Shoot With

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is what camera equipment I use. It’s fluctuated over the years, but here is my current sent up for my blog (when I’m doing freelance work it’s a bit more extensive, but these are my basics for every day shooting).
I can’t say enough good things about this camera. It’s fast, sharp, produces great quality images and isn’t too pricey.
As for lenses, I only shoot with prime lenses these days. I have one zoom lens, the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8, which I use when I shoot weddings (it comes in handy with large bridal parties or exterior church shots). Besides that one lens all my other glass is prime. I prefer shooting prime for a variety of reasons: prime lenses are faster, take crisper images, they’re lightweight which makes them easy to travel with, and are really great in low light situations.
Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 / aka “The Pancake Lens”
This lens basically lives on my camera. It’s perfect for city life since it’s super thin and barely weighs anything at all which makes it easy to carry around all day. The aperture goes down to 2.8 which fits most of my needs. The only thing I don’t like about this lens is that there’s quite a bit of vignette which isn’t much of a factor if you don’t mind editing that out post-process.
This lens I use for close-up photos that the 40mm can’t take. But, I hardly even use it these days.
This lens is great for even crisper close ups. I use this for cocktail photos and detail shots.

This is my old setup (which I haven’t touched since upgrading my camera body). This is a Canon 7D with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4. I’ve considered selling this gear since I haven’t touched it for a while, but it’s always good to have a backup camera and it’s still in good condition.

And that’s my basic set up! I’m curious to hear, what do you shoot with?
