Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

John Muir

So you know I’m a huge book nerd and today is one of my favorite author’s birthday.
John Muir was an American naturalist, author and advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the US. He lived from 1838 until 1914 during which he wrote essays, letters and books about his adventures in nature. He wrote mostly about his time in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, which eventually became home for the 211 mile John Muir Trail, a hiking trail named in his honor in that region. His reading has inspired thousands, and here are a few of my favorite quotes from his work:

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.”

“Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”

“Wander a whole summer if you can…time will not be taken from the sum of your life. Instead of shortening, it will definitely lengthen it and make you truly immortal.”

Recently I’ve been on the road a lot more than I usually am. First Seattle and then Jackson. It’s been good to get out of the city and away from the East Coast. What summer travels do you have planned?
