Ever since I can remember, I’ve always known I was going to have a dog when I grew up. Preferably several! Being a dog mom was just always how I envisioned my future.
So when I graduated college and moved into an apartment in the city, I was finally ready to get my dog.
Enter Juno 🙂
Juno turned 10 on January 23rd and it got me to thinking about all the ways she has changed my life for the better. Being Juno’s mom has been the biggest blessing of my life. She’s my number one, my ride-or-die, my first baby.
Oh boy, I’m already tearing up and getting emotional. It’s going to be a miracle if I make it through this blog post ha!
5 Things I’ve Learned From Being a Dog Mom
In honor of Juno’s tenth birthday on January 23rd I’d like to share 5 things I’ve learned from being her mom.
I learned how important routine is for both of us
When I adopted Juno at 8 weeks old, my life changed in many ways. Taking on the responsibility of house training and teaching her doggy manners meant adhering to a strict schedule. Prior to becoming a dog mom, routine wasn’t an important part of my life. But I soon realized that having structure plays a huge role in maintaining wellbeing for both of us. Thanks to this little pup, she helped me learn more about caring for and nurturing someone who needs it.
I’ve since found out that having a routine has also massively benefited my own mental health. And it all started because of that little 8-week-old pup who needed to go out regularly, have nap time and playtime, and eat consistent meals throughout the day. In her own way, she taught me what caring and nurturing is like.
It’s easier for me to meet her needs than my own
I have no problem doing anything for my dogs. I have a strong nurturing side and caring for animals is highly rewarding for me. It’s also probably why I started Colorado Senior Dog Rescue & Hospice!
I got in touch with my silly side again
All of my dogs have their own songs I’ve made up. And yes, sometimes that comes along with dancing as I sing them.
Play is essential to happiness
Juno LOVES to play with squeaky toys and fetch balls.
Unconditional love and comfort
There is truly no other place I’d rather be than hanging out with my dogs. They are my true best friends, my ride or die, and the feeling of comfort and love they give off I swear has healing properties!
Thank you Juno <3
You made my life worth living. You gave me purpose, you gave me love, and you bring me comfort. Hands down, the best dog on this planet. Love you to the moon and back baby Jujubee!
