Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

How To Enjoy A Night Alone

You know that feeling…the fear of missing out? Ugh, it’s the worst. It always hits me around this time of year, when the weather warms up. For some reason, I feel the need to be outside enjoying the beautiful weather 24/7. But since it’s not possible or realistic to be constantly doing something due to logistics and social fatigue, I’ve come to realize over the years that I really treasure and look forward to having a night to myself. Evenings alone don’t have to turn into a Netflix binge, they can be just as interesting and enjoyable as a night out with friends! Here are a few things I love to do when home alone.

How To Enjoy A Night Alone

Get In Your Pajamas Early

This is a practice I’d love to do more often. For some reason, the nights when I’m in my pajamas by 8pm feel so luxurious. Do you have a nighttime routine? Try starting that a little earlier, maybe add in time for a face mask or a deep conditioning treatment. I always find that getting ready for bed earlier helps me fall asleep faster.

Do Something Creative

I recently decided to try my hand at chalk lettering, something I’ve never done before. I’m not talented at drawing but decided to give it a go with as minimal self-critique as possible. I figured if I was horrible at it, no one would ever know! I picked up this book, a chalkboard, and chalk and turned up the music. It’s fun to try something new and as it turns out, chalk lettering gets easier with practice! Other things to try…knitting, journaling, homemade candles, needlepoint.

Open A Book

Granted, this is my go-to trick in almost any situation, but instead of reading right before bed as I’m under the covers and already sleeping, I try to start reading earlier in the evening so I can stay up and enjoy the book more than a page or two.

Listen To Podcasts

I used to only listen to podcasts as I was doing something else (cooking, driving, etc). But lately, I’ve been cuddling with the pups and settling in for an episode or two. It’s been nice to just sit and relax, taking in the story while having my hands free for puppy belly rubs and cuddles.

Head Out To Watch The Sunset

One of my favorite things to do in Philly is to watch the sunset from Penn Treaty Park. There’s something calming about watching the night come to an end.

How do you enjoy a night alone? P.S. Thoughts on loneliness and good books for a night alone.
