Have you heard of Bookshop.org?
Bookshop.org is an online book retailer that donates the profit of each purchase to local independent bookstores. You even get to choose which bookstore your purchase goes towards! I selected a bookstore near me here in Colorado.
Bookshop.org works to connect readers with independent booksellers all over the world. We believe local bookstores are essential community hubs that foster culture, curiosity, and a love of reading, and we’re committed to helping them thrive.
Every purchase on the site financially supports independent bookstores. Our platform gives independent bookstores tools to compete online and financial support to help them maintain their presence in local communities.
You can learn even more about their mission and where their money goes on their about page.
Books for Native American Heritage Month
ANYWAYS. I’m sharing this with you today because not only is that a super sweet business concept, but they are celebrating Native American Heritage Month by offering a discount on 10 hand-selected titles “that go beyond the basics, and offer a deep dive into everything from the foundations of Sioux cuisine, to the effects of industrialization and climate change on tribal lands.”
So cool, right? Educating ourselves about the experience of others, including racism, oppression, and the history of Native Americans is an important first step towards supporting Native Americans and doing what you can to advocate where and when you can.
Check out the 10 handpicked books that qualify for the discount:
Native American Heritage Month Book List
In addition to the titles above, Bookshop.org compiled several lists featuring Native American authors and history. They’ve included genres like horror, science fiction, thrillers, Afro-Indigenous books, and more right here.
What I’m Reading for NAHM
Inspired by Bookshop.org, here are the books I’ve selected to order and read for Native American Heritage Month. Instead of copying and pasting the book summaries here, simply click on the titles to be taken to their Bookshop.org page, where you can read all about them.
