Hi, I’m Chaucee, the hands behind the words on this screen. I started this blog as a college freshman in 2008 as a creative outlet while studying for my bachelor’s. Since then it’s grown into a way to document things I love and things I’m learning.

Have You Heard Of Kalief Browder?

Have you heard of Kalief Browder?

On May 15, 2010, he was walking home with a friend when a cop car pulled up next to them. They had a man in the car who was riding around with them that night trying to find the “two black men” who had allegedly robbed his brother a few weeks earlier. Kalief was placed under arrest and sent to Rikers Island for three years. He was 16 years old.

Out of the 1,000 days that he spent in prison, 800 of those were in solitary confinement.

The entire time Kalief maintained his innocence despite the horrific violence and brutality he suffered from other inmates and the correctional staff.

Kalief was later acquitted of all charges. He was innocent the entire time.

This documentary is crucial to watch. It shows the horrific injustice of the “justice” system and tells the story of another young black man in the wrong place at the wrong time. I say “another” because this happens every day.

#BlackLivesMatter at all times. If you watch this and aren’t outraged your moral compass is inherently flawed.

Kalief, I’m enraged and heartbroken that your life had to end this way. You did nothing to deserve the horrendous things that happened to you.

We must do better.
