My goal since moving to Denver is to do one outdoor activity a week. Since I work and take classes during the week, this is mostly relegated to weekend adventures. This past Sunday my brother, sister-in-law, and I went hiking at Saint Mary’s Glacier in Idaho Springs, CO.

It’s rated as an easy hike which is perfect for me as I adjust to the higher elevation in Colorado and get back into shape. This type of activity is¬†much preferred to sweating it out in the gym.

Things to know about this hike:

  • Distance: 1.4 miles
  • Difficulty: 2/5 It’s a moderate¬†rocky incline. If you are hiking while snow is on the ground, bring clip-on ice grippers as the rocky path gets slippery.
  • Dogs: on-leash
  • Fee: $5 parking lot fee
  • Scenery: 5/5
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Drive from Denver: 1 hour
  • There are portapotties at the parking lot.
  • The trail starts about 900 feet up the road on the left from the parking lot.
