Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

“If you’re following your calling, the fatigue will be easier to bear, the disappointments will be fuel, the highs will be like nothing you’ve ever felt.”

At first, a memoir by the founder of Nike might not sound all that interesting, but this story is nothing short of fascinating. The way Phil Knight grew a passion into a lifestyle is inspiring. They sure don’t make entrepreneurs like they used to anymore. If you’re looking for a little motivation to get your butt off the couch and DO something, then this is the book for you.

All At Sea by Decca Aitkenhead

“Only now do I understand that loneliness is not an absence of company, but of meaning.” This memoir recounts the time when journalist Decca Aitkenhead lost everything she held dear to the sea. Her partner and the father of her children was pulled underwater by a strong current while the family was on vacation. How does one go on? Couldn’t put this book down. Brutally heartbreaking and beautifully written.

Good as Gone by Amy Gentry

This was my selection from the Book of the Month Club. I’ve been into suspense/thrillers lately and Good as Gone by Amy Gentry satisfied that craving quite well. A 13-year-old girl was kidnapped at gunpoint in the middle of the night. A decade later she shows up at the front door. But is she really who she says she is? I loved how to the book went back through time, telling the story through different perspectives to really explore who exactly Julie is.

The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride

This book was sent to me from Blogging For Books and I was really looking forward to delving in. Set in the 1990’s, an Irish girl moves to London to attend drama school. She meets an older man, a well-seasoned actor, that leads to a dramatic and altering relationship that threatens to ruin them both. While I liked the storyline of the book, the title, and the cover, it was a challenge for me to really get into enjoying this book. The way it was written felt awkward and unnatural. There were times when I struggled to understand the prose, and I don’t like having to force myself to go on hoping for some clarity.

Dark Matter by Blake Couch

This is a story of a man living with the consequences of choice in a multiverse. I read this book in two sittings and was thoroughly captivated the entire time. If you’re looking for a book filled with twists and turns and a dose of science fiction, pick this one up.

  • All of the pasta pups have homes 🥰💕 They’re still too young to leave Mama Mía so I have them for another week. In the meantime, be prepared for a million puppy photos while I cry my heart out.

  • The past two weeks I have not respected my boundaries. Saying yes when I should have said no.

I did not protect the time I need to manage my life - normal things like cleaning, laundry, but also alone time to read, regroup, and nourish myself cooking at home after a long work day, something I’ve really come to enjoy.

So I’m resetting the intention today. I know what works for me and what doesn’t - regardless of what others think my life “should” look like. Going to get back into my routine and re-establish a bedtime.

Ps - this photo was taken by my brother of the mountain valley my parents live in. Beautiful, isn’t it?

  • Yes, I *am* that dog mom that puts her toy poodle in her overalls. It’s a hands free baby Bjorne!

It’s been a weekend filled with emotions. Almost all my foster puppies have homes and now mama Mia does too! Even though I was ready for it, it is a roller coaster. It’s hard to let go of the dogs you’ve cared for and loved.

  • This weekend my neighbors are having a block party -yes we can still have those in the mountains! Even if it is on a dirt road 😂. What are you up to this weekend? I hope some of it involves getting off Instagram, finding connection (the nature kind or human kind), and a cheese board. Always a cheese board - just makes life instantly better. Happy Friday!
