On My Nightstand: Brain on Fire & Mango Street

brain1

Brain on Fire is pretty awesome. I’m really into memoirs lately and this one was a good one to read after this book. Susannah’s writing is easy to read and understand even when she delves into the medical jargon of her illness. She’s probably one of the few who have gone mad, and then come back to tell of it.

On the back of this book it says that this book has been read by thousands of students at universities and high schools across the nation. I’ve never even heard of it, so I figured I should join the popular kids and pick it up. The House on Mango Street is a quick read (only 110 pages) and started out strong. But as the book went on I felt myself loosing interest. It was a bit of a struggle to finish. Nonetheless, I would still recommend reading it. After all, 110 pages isn’t that hard to commit to right?

While most of the books I read make it to the blog, I always share the books I’m reading on my Instagram. You can follow me at @streets_stripes.
