I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading lately so I figured I’d lump a few books together into one post instead of overwhelming you with a heavy amount of book posts. Below are some of my recent reads. What are you reading lately?
In 2004, at a beach resort on the coast of Sri Lanka, Sonali Deraniyagala and her family—parents, husband, sons—were swept away by a tsunami. Only Sonali survived to tell their tale. This is her account of the nearly incomprehensible event and its aftermath.
I’ve seen this book everywhere. At the hair salon, mentioned in online articles, someone reading it on the subway, which only cemented my desire to read it. Americanah is a “powerful, tender story about race and identity” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I highly recommend this book.
Alice Howland is an accomplished Harvard professor and a world-renowned expert in linguistics when she is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. At 50 years old her life is turned upside down as she learns to live with this diagnosis that makes her increasingly disoriented and forgetful and changes her relationship with her family and the world forever.
It’s not necessarily one of the best books I’ve ever read , but it was an easy read. Good for a day on the beach!
