Happiness Project: October

Looking back, I have a lot to be thankful for this month. Big life changes were the theme of the past 31 days which presented its own set of challenges but also opportunities for thankfulness.

As you know, I drove from Philadelphia to Denver midway through the month with my best friend, my two dogs, and senior cat. Thankfully it went a lot smoother than anticipated. Being able to spend time together with my closest friend while I transitioned into a new phase in life was helpful in adjusting to my new home.

The new couch is tested and approved.

Re-decorating my new apartment has been so much fun! I can’t wait to share the before and after pictures with you.

For Mom

One of the main reasons I moved to Denver was to start coding classes. I first taught myself to code when I was 13 years old messing around on Angelfire (dating myself here lol). I never pictured myself going back to school but so far I’m really enjoying it! I also happened to sit next to the ONLY other person from Philadelphia in my class so that was an amusing coincidence on the first day of school.

A new city means new parks to explore! The pups are loving our weekend adventures and it’s so nice to have so much space for them to run around.

What brought you happiness this month?

  • Our actions and decisions today will shape how we will be living in the future.

Tell me... How can you set your week up for success starting today?

What actions can you take – daily, weekly, monthly – to get you closer to your goal?

What habits, fears, or tasks can you eliminate to alleviate what could be holding you back?

  • My idea of a web developer has always been some dude with glasses in a cubicle who is a huge Star Wars fan with little to no social skills outside of talking code.

Sometimes it feels a bit weird to call myself a developer because I don’t fit into that mold … at all.

I’m a WordPress developer who lives in the Rocky Mountains, on a dirt road, in a log cabin, with four dogs and two cats. I heat my home with a wood stove and and love to cook. I’m a huge bookworm and I’ve watched Gilmore Girls at least 10 times.

And yet … I love to code. Always have. I taught myself HTML and CSS when I was 13 and spent 6 months last year learning a back end languages at Denver University.

Sometimes my life feels like a huge contradiction. I’m surrounded by nature and the immensity of it - the beauty and the extreme weather that comes with living on top of a canyon.

But, I also love this other part of my life … the part that has always loved spending copious amounts of time on the computer creating.

There is no point I’m trying to make or some grand, wise, revelation to share. Just that I love these two aspects of my life that kinda seem opposite of one another - I enjoy a blend of both. This kinda life suites me.

  • Did my *first* live video on Facebook today, ah!

I talked about what you'll need in place BEFORE you start a website redesign to make sure your project goes smoothly.

I'm thinking about doing these Website Wednesday videos bi-monthly. Topics could include anything website-related like...
➖
✅ should I go with WordPress or SquareSpace?
✅ how to write website copy that converts
✅ where to source photos for your new website
➖
etc. Comment below if you'd like to see more content like this! A link to the video is in my bio.

  • What is making you happy right now?

Mine looks a lot like this - a road straight into the heart of the mountains.

It also looks like my new robot vacuum (hello #dogmom life), cinnamon spiced coffee, and adhering to my bedtime consistently this last week. Here's to another great week of 9pm bedtimes! #babygrandma
